Weekly NJSNA President’s Message

 In Nurses Weekly

In New Jersey, we are seeing the overall number of COVID cases decrease and the state slowly opening. This is good news but not a reason to stop social distancing, wearing your mask and washing your hands. In recent news, it was reported that Florida had a resurgence of 5,500 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours as a result of communities not following the guidelines of social distancing and becoming complacent. As nurses we need to lead by example and educate our patients, families and communities to not relax and continue to protect yourself and others from spreading the virus. New Jersey needs your help!

Special Thank You and Shout Out!

The Healthy Nurse Healthy New Jersey (HNHNJ) Team held weekly “Moral Support” Zoom meetings on Wednesdays since the beginning of the COVID outbreak. This week’s meeting will be the last one for now, but they will resume if needed in September. I want to thank Tracey Jaworski-Lucas, Sandy Foley, Eileen Specchio and Dr. Thomas Barrett for all of the time and effort you contributed to make these meetings so valuable to nurses all over the state who joined us each week. It was an opportunity for us to talk about struggles that we as nurses understand and combine it with a little laughter yoga.

Next week HNHNJ will hold a special Zoom “Happy Hour” with great speakers on meditation, health, self-care and great networking. NJSNA will be e-blasting more information, so plan to join us for this fun and educational event.

Please continue to visit the Healthy Nurse Healthy New Jersey webpage and on our private Facebook page, New Jersey State Nurses Healthy Nurse, for more information.

Be safe,

Kate Gillespie, MBA RN, President, NJSNA
