Calling All Hospice, Palliative Care Nurses

 In Nurses Weekly

While attending Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) Clinical Practice Forum in Pittsburgh last month, I was surprised to find there is no chapter of HPNA in New Jersey.

I’m writing to invite your collaboration in starting and gauge your interest in participation in a New Jersey HPNA chapter.

I realize not many of us can afford the time and expense to travel to a national conference. My goals of promoting a HPNA chapter in New Jersey are increasing local professional development opportunities, reducing compassion fatigue, decreasing burn out and raising the community awareness of hospice and palliative nursing.

Will you join me in bringing this benefit to nurses in our state?

I have been informed by HPNA that, to start, we need to identify a group of three to seven interested HPNA voting members who are willing to commit to the development of a provisional group and form a steering committee. For it to be successful, it should be inclusive of different agencies, clinical settings and practice levels.

If you are a voting member of HPNA and are interested, please let me know via email to summer.valenti@gmail.com using the subject line, “NJ HPNA Steering Committee.”

If you are not yet a member of HPNA, I invite you to join by clicking here.

Regards,
Summer Valenti, BSN, RN-BC
