TRENTON, N.J.-September 18, 2015–New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA) President Norma Rodgers will appear on the Dr. Oz show focusing on nurses on the Monday, September 21 episode.

The segment Rodgers appears in will concentrate on the controversy ignited by the negative comments hosts of The View and how nationally nurses were outraged and disappointed about the language the View hosts used.

“Nurses support Miss Colorado and appreciate her monologue about how nursing is her talent,” said Norma Rodgers, president of the NJSNA, which represents the interests of 125,000 registered nurses and advanced practice nurses as an advocate for the nursing profession. “The words that the host on the View downgraded nursing. The segment focuses on the positive aspects of nursing and how we support her and how this controversy caused this movement to raise awareness of the profession of nursing.”

Rodgers appears in the same segment as Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson.

Nurses around the country have responded with outrage and a social media campaign, generating thousands of tweets using hashtags ‪#‎NursesShareYourStethoscopes and #ThisisNotACostume.

Advertisers, including New Brunswick-based Johnson & Johnson have pulled their advertising from the show along with Eggland’s Best.

“Nurses have a professional, ethical obligation to their patients, and are committed to transforming the health care system to achieve better health outcomes at reduced cost,” said American Nursing Association President Pamela F. Cipriano, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, in a national response to comments on The View earlier this week. “That’s why it was disturbing when Joy Behar, co-host of The View, used her national platform and influence to mock Miss America contestant Kelley Johnson for wearing a ‘doctor’s stethoscope’ while performing a dramatic monologue about her experience as a registered nurse during the pageant’s talent competition, as if Johnson were wearing a costume. Nurses don’t wear costumes; they save lives.”

The show is scheduled to air at 2 p.m. Monday on Fox
