The IFN is committed to supporting the educational aspirations of nursing students and professionals. Through the Institute for Nursing, we offer scholarships and grants to assist with academic pursuits, ensuring a robust and well-prepared nursing workforce for New Jersey's future.
Institute for Nursing Scholarships
General Scholarship Eligibility
Be a New Jersey resident
Be enrolled in a diploma, associate, BSN, MSN, or doctoral nursing program in NJ
Be a NJSNA member if you are a Registered Nurse
Award Criteria: Scholarships may be applied toward tuition, books, and academic fees only. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, financial need, and leadership potential.
Eligibility: To be considered for each individual scholarship, the applicant must meet both the General Eligibility Requirements and the Individual Scholarship Eligibility Requirements.

General Scholarship
- Open to high school graduates or adult students meeting eligibility requirements.
Lucille Joel Scholarship
- Open to Registered Nurses (RNs) pursuing a master’s degree in nursing.
- Must have an interest in health policy or psychiatric/mental health nursing (documented in the application).
Newark City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association Scholarship
- Open to New Jersey residents.
- Must be enrolled as a sophomore or above in a Registered Nurse (RN) program or upper-division nursing degree.
Mary Germain Scholarship
- Open to students residing in Monmouth or Middlesex counties.
- Must be pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Meridian Health Care Systems Jean Marshall Scholar Award
- Open to Registered Nurses (RNs) pursuing a master’s degree or higher in nursing.
Region 2 Memorial Scholarship
- Open to Registered Nurses in Region 2 (Bergen & Hudson Counties).
- Must have been an NJSNA member for at least one year.
- Must be pursuing an RN to BSN or a higher degree in nursing.
Dr. Barbara Chamberlain Memorial Scholarship
- Open to Registered Nurses (RNs) pursuing a BSN or higher in nursing.
LPN Scholarship (Sponsored by the former LPN Forum)
- Open to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
- Must have been accepted into a Registered Nurse (RN) Program.
Dr. Benjamin Evans Grant
- A $500 grant for Registered Nurses enrolled in a DNP Program.
- Supports DNP project expenses.
Sylvia C. Edge Endowment Scholarship
- Open to student nurses of African descent with documented financial need.
- Applicants must be New Jersey residents enrolled in a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate nursing program in NJ.
Additional Nursing Scholarships
Valerie E. Yahn Endowment Scholarship
- Open to high school students in Region 5 (Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties).
- Deadline: February 1, 2025
- Apply: Email your completed application to Jennifer Chanti at jennifer@njsna.org with "Valerie E. Yahn Scholarship Application" in the subject line.

Region 4 Dr. Barbara Wright Scholarship
- Open to:
- Registered Nurses who are NJSNA Region 4 members (minimum of one year).
- Nursing students residing in Region 4 (Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, and Bucks counties) enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
- Award: $1,000
- Deadline: September 1, 2025
